MTV Won't Hold Video Music Awards Indoors, Will Feature Outdoor Performances Instead

MTV has scrapped plans for holding the upcoming Video Music Awards at the Barclays Center, an indoor arena in Brooklyn. Due to coronavirus concerns, the August 30 show will feature performances at various outdoor venues instead. While most events have gone online, the VMAs were scheduled to be the first major awards ceremony to take place in a traditional setting since the pandemic started. However,  MTV and Barclays said in a statement that "it became clear at this time that outdoor performances with limited or no audience would be more feasible and safer than an indoor event."
