JAY-Z & Meek Mill Donate 100,000 Surgical Masks to Jails & Prisons Nationwide
JAY-Z and Meek Mill will send nearly 100,000 surgical masks to correctional facilities across the U.S. to help inmates, correctional officers and prison healthcare workers amid the coronavirus pandemic. This past Friday, the rappers' REFORM Alliance announced that the facilities receiving their donations include New York City's Rikers Island and Mississippi's Parchman Farm, a state penitentiary that JAY-Z is also suing after five inmates were killed there earlier this year. "It's a very vulnerable population," says Jessica Jackson, REFORM's chief advocacy officer. "We're really worried about the number of people coming in and out of the facility, and the fact that the people living there might be sitting ducks during this pandemic."
