7-Year-Old Blue Ivy Carter Wins Songwriting Honor at BET Soul Train Awards
It didn't take long for Blue Ivy Carter to follow in her parent's musical footsteps. EW repots that at Sunday's 2019 BET Soul Train Awards, the 7-year-old won her first songwriting award for her contributions to mom Beyoncé's "Brown Skin Girl." Blue and her parents received the Ashford and Simpson Songwriter's award along with others who worked on the song, which appears on the soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift'. In the song, Blue Ivy sings, “Brown skin girl, your skin just like pearls, the best thing in the world, never trade you for anybody else" at the start and end of the tune. The song debuted at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in July. It received rave reviews from stars, including Gabrielle Union and Lupita Nyong'o. Blue Ivy also appeared in the "Spirit" music video with her mother for the Lion King soundtrack.
